Digital SLR Cameras

SLR or Single Lens Reflex cameras, are the first choice of professionals and demanding amateurs alike.

The fact that this system allows a more precise evaluation of the image to be captured than any other system, makes it stand out from anything else out there.

With the advent of digital technology, this system has now reached amazing quality proportions. The modern SLR digital cameras, offer all the advantages of the older film cameras, but the convenience of digital processing. Gone are the days when you would have to wait to see how your pictures came out. Now you can see in seconds, and retake the shot if necessary.

Although still quite a bit more expensive than the equivalent film cameras, Digital SLR cameras are definitely becoming the stalwart of todays' active photographer.

Apart from the obvious advantage of near instant results, the modern Digital SLR camera has some other advantages.

A high quality camera, can produce the same picture quality as was achieved by the best film cameras. The actual memory cards being used by todays' cameras can take into the thousands of images, film was limited to 36 unless you had a specially fitted back, when up to 250 images could be taken. The speed of the fastest film cameras for continuous shooting (which is handy for action sports) was about 8 Frames per second. Modern digital cameras achieve the same speed in bursts up to 110 frames.

Need to insert a new memory card, it takes just seconds. Some models even come with two memory cards installed. When the memory card is full, download it to your computer and erase it, to be used again. No need to buy costly film.

One of the bigger advantages of the Digital SLR cameras is the interchangeable lens feature on the better models. This enables Photographers that previously owned a film camera from a certain manufacturer, to just buy a Digital body and use his existing lenses.

For a lot of professionals, their special lenses are extremely expensive, costing many times that of the camera body.

The manufacturers have also taken care to try and preserve the features of the film cameras with the new Digital SLR cameras, making sure that the transition to digital is not a huge traumatic experience for someone upgrading.

So, all in all Digital SLR cameras are the cream of the crop. They offer anything the photographers heart may desire.

Digital Cameras Tip #1

Figure out what you need before you buy: There are so many different types of camera available, ranging from cheap point and click to very expensive professional units. Decide what you primarily would like to do with your camera, to drastically reduce your evaluation time.

Digital Cameras Tip #2

Don't only look at the price: Digital Cameras for the most part follow the same rules - you get what you pay for. Buying the cheapest digital camera may be expensive in the long run, when you need to buy another model to do something new.

Digital Cameras Tip #3

Make sure the camera feels good in your hands: This is so often overlooked in the search for more features. If you are not comfortable with how the camera operates, all those features won't matter, since you won't be using the camera as much as you should anyway.
