 Best Compact Digital Camera

The best Compact Digital Camera

Ask any 5 people what they consider to be the best compact digital camera, and you more than likely will get 5 different answers.

You see the question should really be: What is the best compact digital camera for me.

This is a totally different question, as everyone has different needs and wants in a piece of equipment, which results in the best camera for maybe being the worst camera for you.

When you start looking at the various brands of camera, you will quickly discover, that most manufacturers offer a similar set of features at a specific price point. So unless you go with a total unknown brand, you really do not have much problem with choosing one manufacturer over another.

So in the end it really boils down to what you specifically expect from a digital camera, and then compare that to the specifications issued by the manufacturers.

Whether you choose a Canon Powershot, or a Sony Cybershot, really only depends on what the particular model you are looking at has compared to the other.

the price of a Nikon Coolpix as compared to a Kodak Easyshare, is not that much different if you compare feature for feature.

Of course Fuji will come out and say we do this and that better than the Samsung XYJ, but in the end, they are just mentioning features they have, that they know the Samsung doesn't have. The fact that the Samsung has other features that the Fuji FinePix doesn't have, is of course not mentioned.

The bottom line is, when choosing the best compact digital camera for you, look at which features are important to you, compare to the products on offer and forget about the brand.

A word of warning though.

They manufacturers know that they don't really have a branding edge with their name in this sector of the market, so this is what they do, they use a specific memory card in their cameras.

This is done in the hope that the potential buyer that is upgrading his equipment will reason that as he already has spare memory cards that fit manufacturer X's camera, he might as well stay with that manufacturer to save on buying new memory.

The problem with this argument is  that the newer memory is so much bigger faster and cheaper, that the savings obtained by using old memory is very little if any.

So the best compact digital camera for you is still a wide open playing field, with you calling the shots.

Digital Cameras Tip #1

Figure out what you need before you buy: There are so many different types of camera available, ranging from cheap point and click to very expensive professional units. Decide what you primarily would like to do with your camera, to drastically reduce your evaluation time.

Digital Cameras Tip #2

Don't only look at the price: Digital Cameras for the most part follow the same rules - you get what you pay for. Buying the cheapest digital camera may be expensive in the long run, when you need to buy another model to do something new.

Digital Cameras Tip #3

Make sure the camera feels good in your hands: This is so often overlooked in the search for more features. If you are not comfortable with how the camera operates, all those features won't matter, since you won't be using the camera as much as you should anyway.
